ePropulsion Spirit 1 kW Evo Electric Outboard Motor

ePropulsion Spirit 1 kW Evo Electric Outboard Motor

  • The ideal option if you're looking for an electric outboard motor with remote control or for sailors.
  • With hydrogeneration; you receive up to 330 Watt charging current to the battery if, for example, the propeller rotates during sailing! With 4 hours of sailing, an empty battery is then fully charged.
  • Has a larger tilt angle than the Spirit Plus.
  • Available with tiller (helm / tiller) and/or remote control (remote) for the same price.
  • Subsidy: Electric boat motors and Lithium batteries are eligible for Environmental Investment Deduction and Arbitrary Depreciation of Environmental Investments for vessels used commercially. The tax benefit can amount to over 14% of the investment amount with MIA\Vamil.
  • In case of sailing damage, coverage falls under your personal liability insurance. This usually covers up to and including engine powers of 1 kW.
  • Please note the basic price does not include battery and remote control

----

Alternative: the Spirit Plus tiller: a more affordable option, but without the charging function while sailing.

or (tip) the successor, the Spirit 2 with 3 kW power and 1.5 kWh battery capacity (as an addition to this Spirit 1 kW Evo).

----

  • A lightweight electric outboard motor including an integrated battery: the best in its class!
  • Thrust: The power is comparable to 3 HP. Electric motors have a much higher thrust than a gasoline engine.
The motor is suitable for bringing boats up to 900 kilograms to cruising speed and boats up to 300 kilograms to hull speed.
This motor is therefore very suitable for RIBs, sloops, inflatable boats (mostly up to 5 meters) and sailboats (up to 7 meters).
For boats with a lower weight, the 0.7 kW electric outboard motor is available.
For boats with a higher weight, the ePropulsion Navy 3.0 Evo 3kW is available.
  • 1,276 Wh unsinkable battery: The motor can be fitted with an easily detachable 1,276 Wh unsinkable battery.
With a consumption of 330 Watts per hour (Wh), you can sail for 4.5 hours. At 6 kilometers per hour, the range is 27 kilometers. Sufficient for most water sports enthusiasts.
  • With the S430 electric sloop 4 meters with steering, you achieve a sailing speed of 5 kilometers per hour at 100 Watts (range 65 kilometers), 6 kilometers per hour at 250 Watts (range over 30 kilometers), 7 kilometers per hour at 500 Watts (range 18 kilometers), 8 kilometers per hour at 1,000 (1 kW) Watts (range 10 kilometers).
  • The advantage of a second battery: All parts of the ePropulsion are available separately. This also applies to the battery, which can be easily disconnected. It is therefore possible to purchase a second battery. If you set off with two fully charged batteries, you are assured of a good day of sailing.
More affordable AGM or other LiFePO4 batteries are also available.
  • or other AGM or LiFePO4 batteries (for which you need a special external E-series battery cable 1.5 meters, €159, Article number 00-0601-08)
  • Battery charging: The Spirit battery has mutually independent charging and discharging ports, so you can connect the battery's charging port to an input power source while it is being discharged. On a sunny day, you can connect the Spirit battery to a solar panel using the Spirit solar panel during a boat trip, and the battery can last a whole day at economical speed.

  • The Spirit 1.0 Evo and Spirit 1.0R (remote) Evo have the same stern.
You can easily convert the Spirit 1.0 Evo Tiller to a 1.0R Evo Remote, which are packaged in separate boxes. So you can always later convert the motor to a version with a tiller or steering control (exclusive - separate option).
  • Includes Transom/base motor (in a box)
  • Includes Spirit Plus battery (in a box when you order the battery)
  • Includes Evo tiller (when you choose the tiller variant)
  • Includes Remote (top) or (side control at extra cost) and includes Remote control kit with steering adapter, etc. (when you choose the remote control)
  • For the Remote / remote control, you only need a steering cable (from approximately 100 euros) and a steering wheel (from approximately 30 euros) to be able to sail with steering.
  • Excluding: installation €995.
  • Amazingly quiet: The Spirit 1.0 is virtually silent with a direct-drive motor. There is no gearbox, which means less friction in the motor. The noise level of the Spirit is comparable to the noise level of an electric toothbrush.
  • Electric start, so no more pulling as with a combustion engine.
  • Maximum power adjustable: safe for children, for example.
  • Left-hand friendly: you can accelerate by turning the throttle handle to the left or right.
  • Maintenance-free: The Spirit 1.0 is a game-changer. Much less time wasted on maintenance or winterizing. Only replace the anti-corrosion anode after 200 hours and grease some parts. Spend less time on your outboard motor and more time enjoying the water.
  • More economical than a combustion engine: 1 hour of full-throttle sailing with the Spirit costs less than €0.25 (1 kWh). 1 hour of full-throttle with a 3hp combustion engine costs approximately 1 liter = €1.80. A combustion engine needs annual minor maintenance (€110) and sometimes a major service (€200). So with 50 hours annually, you save over €225 in costs! After just 3 years of sailing, electric sailing already becomes the most economical (a combustion engine is approximately 50% lower in purchase price).
  • Automatically switches off after half an hour of inactivity.
  • With a total weight of 20 kilograms including the battery, the set is portable, especially with the accompanying ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Motor and Battery Bag. The control handle (tiller) is easily foldable.

  • Available in:
    • extra short shaft (shallow water or for mini boat, transom height 30-40 centimeters). Dimensions: 884 mm × 275 mm × 942 mm and shaft 525 mm (XS)
    • short shaft (transom height 40 to 50 centimeters. Dimensions: 884 mm × 275 mm × 1042 mm and shaft 625 mm.;
    • and long shaft (transom height longer than 50 centimeters). Dimensions: 884 mm × 275 mm × 1167 mm and shaft 750 mm.
Please measure which length you need as this differs from internal combustion engines.
The transom height is the distance from the top where the motor rests to the bottom of the boat. For most small inflatable boats and aluminum boats shorter than 4.5 meters, both extra short shaft and short shaft will function regardless of the shaft length.
Please specify your desired shaft length when ordering.

Reviews about the Plus engine also featured in this model

  • Review: the Gentle 440 boat is beautiful with an excellent quality ePropulsion Spirit electric outboard motor. Nicholas
  • Since this summer the owner of Gentle 430. A wonderful boat for about 6 people. We purchased the E-propulsion Spirit (motor) with the boat. Silent, but very powerful and excellent battery life. Díco
  • Very satisfied with the Epropulsion Spirit 1.0 PLUS - whisper quiet and remarkably powerful, highly recommended! René December 22, 2020
  • Awesome product, well made and delivers on performance, convenience, portability and SILENCE! Would earn 5 stars, except for two aspects: 1) the tilt mechanism doesn't allow the prop to fully clear the water; 2) The short shaft is still quite long, actually too long. I would opt for EXTRA short shaft if you think you need a short shaft. But in terms of performance, the ePropulsion meets all my expectations. Not only is it quiet, but the fine control for docking far exceeds what a gasoline outboard can deliver. Starting/stopping, etc. is completely silent and effortless. Also impressed with the battery life and rechargeability: we use this on a tender to replace a larger gas-powered Yamaha outboard. During my first 5-day trip with the Spirit 1.0, I used the device to go to shore or across a bay two to three times a day, for 5 days, and only used 40% of the battery. While anchored and running my generator for an hour, I recharged 15% of the capacity. When steering the boat, charging via my alternator, I fully recharged to capacity (from 60% balance to 100% balance) in 2.5 hours of boating. The battery life seems so good, and charging so efficient, that I don't need a second battery, which was a concern/consideration. Finally, I enjoy wildlife photography, and the ease of use combined with virtually silent operation allows for close proximity to wildlife for photos that would not be achievable with a gas outboard. Highly recommended! Mark Leopold August 13, 2019 Source: https://www.rjnautical.com/epropulsion/epropulsion-electric-outboards-spirit-1-0-plus-shortshaft/#product-reviews
  • Very happy with this purchase: these electric motors now make perfect sense and I'm very glad I dumped my old Nissan 8 hp for this electric 6 hp. This one is completely silent with no gas or oil spills to worry about. Matthew Terrill April 12, 2019 Source
  • Excellent: easy to use and store; get many coastal visits with one charge. Love it. David M.
  • After using the outboard for a couple of weeks and running it for about 10 hours in varying conditions, from calm to heavy Atlantic waves, I am very happy with it. As expected, I had to properly adjust the outboard on my Drascombe Scaffie to provide more clearance, but it was worth it and the extra short shaft length is absolutely perfect. My daughter named the whole process "sailing without raising the sails" Rick - May 16, 2018
  • I’ve been out playing with the eprop all weekend and am a little bit in love. Here are some observations: - the ePropulsion is definitely faster than the torqeedo (at least the 1003 I had). We are getting an extra half a knot at half power and a whole extra knot at full power. This may be related to it being more effective for heavier loads, Amélie weighs around 700kg. I am no longer holding up faster boats behind me when leaving the lock. We can start out at a very respectable 7 kilometres per hour (where the torqeedo topped out at 5.5).
    - the ePropulsion is more responsive than the torqeedo. I don’t know if this is due to the gearing but power seems immediate which is a real bonus when dodging a racing dinghy that has been blown off course.
    - We found the ePropulsion to be almost silent at times. There were a couple of instances when sailing into wind that we didn’t even realise the engine was still running!! I wondered how we were doing 11 kilometres per hour
    - battery life is great! On a 7nm trip each day we used half the battery. This was a combination of motoring, sailing & motor sailing. At least half the time it was running.
    - The ePropulsion beats the tide!! The torqeedo just couldn’t handle it.
    - ePropulsion is more manoeuvrable
    - the battery may be heavier but the bag is superb! Being a backpack it is far easier to carry despite the extra weight. Seems to be of a better quality too.
Overall, I am pretty happy and glad I went for it.
    RD Rainham - July 19, 2018.
  • It has been a fantastic change for us to have the peace and quiet of the electric motor on the River Thames during the summer. The performance has been pretty good, we can get the boat (a Drascombe Lugger) roughly to hull speed but at 6 kilometres per hour or so (the maximum speed on the river is 7-8 kilometres per hour) we comfortably get between 4 and 5 hours of power. We usually only cruise for between 3 and 4 hours, and that probably includes a lunch or sundowner at anchor/bank tie-up or a swim, so we haven't really tested the motor at 'Max'.
Apart from the quietness, the simplicity of the motor in terms of starting, restarting and shifting has given Erica much more confidence to take the boat out on her own (she never quite mastered the petrol outboard). The other real advantage is that once we've removed the battery, the motor is so light that we always take it off the transom and store it underneath - there are many cases of outboard motor theft. I hope all goes well, the motor has attracted a lot of interest from other River users, all of whom cannot believe how quiet it is.
