The ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus is a portable electric outboard motor with tiller steering and a power output of 1 kW. The motor is available in extra short shaft, short shaft, and long shaft versions. Depending on the chosen model, the motor is supplied with or without the removable 1,276 Wh Spirit Battery Plus.

Choose the right model

The choice of model determines the shaft length, condition, price, and whether the battery is included. Both new and pre-owned models are available. For the previously offered pre-owned long shaft with battery, a three-month warranty is stated; the battery has been tested and has at least 90% capacity. Always check the selected variant when ordering.

Extra short shaft: for a transom height of approximately 30 to 40 cm
Short shaft: for a transom height of approximately 40 to 50 cm
Long shaft: for a transom height of more than 50 cm

Measure the transom height from the motor mounting point to the bottom of the boat. The required shaft length may differ from that of a fuel-powered motor.

Power and application

The Spirit 1.0 Plus delivers 1,000 watts, which ePropulsion compares to approximately 3 HP. This is a theoretical comparison based on thrust and performance; kW and HP are not directly equivalent.

As a practical guideline, Marinaut suggests that the motor is suitable for bringing boats up to approximately 900 kg to cruising speed and lighter boats up to approximately 300 kg toward hull speed. The actual result depends on hull shape, waterline, load, wind, and waterway conditions. The motor is widely used on dinghies, RIBs, sloops, fishing boats, and smaller sailboats.

For larger or heavier boats, the ePropulsion Navy 3.0 Evo and ePropulsion Navy 6.0 Evo are possible alternatives.

These factory values were measured with one person in a 12-foot aluminum boat, with one Spirit Battery Plus and in calm water. The actual speed, run time, and range will vary depending on the boat, load, weather, and operating conditions.

Spirit Plus and Spirit Evo

The Spirit 1.0 Plus has tiller steering and is also available as an extra short shaft. The Spirit 1.0 Evo is available with tiller or remote steering and supports hydrogeneration while sailing when required conditions are met. A wireless man-overboard wristband is optional on the Evo.

Spirit Battery Plus

The optional Spirit Battery Plus is a removable, floating lithium-polymer battery. Models without a battery are intended for users who already have a suitable Spirit or external E-series battery.

Real-world experiences

On a Gentle 430 with six people, the motor was experienced as quiet, strong, and sufficient for relaxed cruising.
With an extra short shaft, approx. 8 to 9 km/h at full power and 6.5 to 7 km/h at about one-third power was reported.
On a sailboat of approx. 700 kg, about 7 km/h was reported, with quick response and good maneuverability.
On a Drascombe Lugger, a run time of approx. four to five hours was reported at about 6 km/h.
