The ePropulsion Navy 3.0 Evo is a 3 kW electric outboard motor featuring direct-drive, hydrogeneration, and remote steering. The motor is designed for applications including sloops, tenders, RIBs, and sailboats and is supplied without a drive battery.
Select version
- Short shaft: generally for a transom height of 40–50 cm.
- Long shaft: generally for a transom height above 50 cm.
- Control: the version offered includes remote control. Other Evo controls, such as side-mount, dual control, or a tiller, are available separately.
- Battery: not included. A suitable 48 V battery and charging solution are required for a complete installation.
Measure the transom height before ordering. For more power, the ePropulsion Navy 6.0 Evo is also available.
Power and application
The Navy 3.0 Evo delivers 3 kW. As a practical comparison, this corresponds to approximately 5 hp of propulsion power up to 8 hp of thrust. ePropulsion also cites a theoretical comparison of approximately 6 hp. Electric power, thrust, and the motor power of a combustion engine are not directly convertible.
As a practical Marinaut guideline, the motor can bring boats of approximately 900 to 2,700 kg to cruising speed and lighter boats of approximately 300 to 950 kg towards hull speed. Actual performance depends on the hull, load, battery, propeller, wind, and current.
Official performance with E80 battery
| Power | Speed | Runtime | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300 W | 6 km/h | 13 hours 20 min. | 79.3 km |
| 550 W | 7.5 km/h | 7 hours 25 min. | 56.3 km |
| 1,000 W | 8.6 km/h | 4 hours | 34.1 km |
| 1,500 W | 9.7 km/h | 2 hours 40 min. | 25.7 km |
| 2,000 W | 10.2 km/h | 2 hours | 20.4 km |
| 2,500 W | 12.8 km/h | 1 hour 35 min. | 20.5 km |
| 3,000 W | 16.4 km/h | 1 hour 20 min. | 21.9 km |
Factory test with a 12-foot aluminum boat, one person, a Navy 3.0 Evo, and an E80 battery on calm inland water. Actual values will vary per boat and conditions.
Hydrogeneration
While sailing, the Navy 3.0 Evo can charge a suitable ePropulsion battery via the rotating propeller when the required sailing conditions are met. The output varies with speed, installation, and conditions. Consult the manual for the conditions.
Drive and control
- Brushless 48 V DC motor with direct-drive.
- Stepless forward and reverse.
- Digital display showing power, battery status, voltage, and remaining runtime, among other info.
- Adjustable maximum power, for example for rental or gentle use.
- Magnetic emergency stop switch.
- Support for top-mount, side-mount, dual-remote, and tiller control.
- Wireless or wired communication, depending on the chosen control and installation.
- Closed-loop liquid cooling without the use of external water.
Battery and installation
The motor is supplied without a battery. ePropulsion recommends a 48 V E-Series LiFePO4 battery. The 4.1 kWh E80 is a suitable combination and was also used for the official performance table.
- A suitable battery, battery charger, cabling, main switch, and fuse are required for operation.
- For an installation with steering, a suitable steering cable and a steering wheel are also required.
- Other suitable 48 V batteries can be used if the voltage, current capacity, safety, and communication are correctly configured.

Practical experience
Jan Romeijn, console boat of approx. 750 kg: reported a quiet sailing experience and speeds up to approx. 10 km/h after a trip of about 6.5 hours. The test was performed with one person. This is a personal experience and not guaranteed performance.

Comparison with Haswing Ventura F.50
- Choose the Haswing Ventura F.50 if a more compact 2.5 kW motor and lower purchase price are important.
- Choose the Navy 3.0 Evo when 3 kW of power, hydrogeneration, and the extensive Evo control options are important.
