The unique and industry-first 4-2-1 Performance Tuned exhaust manifold is designed to maximize torque and acceleration performance at low RPM. This best-in-class torque-to-displacement ratio delivers outstanding performance for all boat types, from light to heavy, for pleasure or commercial use. In certain boat applications, the MFS140A will perform comparable to heavier 150hp outboards that weigh as much as 50kg more.
This engine is also easier to install due to its lower weight.

• With the Protagon 20 with a boat weight of 850 kilograms, you can sail with a 140 hp outboard motor at a top speed of 63 kilometers per hour.
• With the Waterspoor 717 tender with a boat weight of 1,750 kilograms, you can sail with a 140 hp outboard motor at a top speed of 55 kilometers per hour.
• With the Corsiva 750 tender 175 hp, you can sail with a 140 hp outboard motor at a top speed of 55 kilometers per hour. And with eight people, it can reach over 45 kilometers per hour.

Where the competition supplies a 1.8 liter engine, the Tohaotsu has a 140 hp 2 liter engine.

The MFS140A is designed with Simpliq™ technology and features a SOHC 4V design. The spark plugs are strategically placed in the center of each combustion chamber for the most efficient combustion with optimal heat conduction, resulting in strong running and fuel efficiency.

A rule of thumb is that for fast boats, you need 1 hp for a total weight of 10 to 20 kilograms. Based on this, this outboard motor is suitable for a total weight of 1 ton to 3 tons.
For displacement boats, 1 hp per 150 to 200 kilograms is sufficient; then the engine is adequate for a total weight of 21 to 28 tons.

• Trim meter

The 2" diameter trim gauge displays the engine angle for optimal performance and efficiency. It features a domed lens to minimize glare in direct sunlight, a fog- and scratch-resistant coating, and a chrome bezel.

 

• Tachometer

The 7,000-rpm tachometer (10-centimeter diameter) has a chrome ring and is illuminated for clear visibility in the dark. It features a domed lens to minimize glare in direct sunlight and a fog- and scratch-resistant coating.

The tachometer informs the operator of potential problems, such as low oil pressure, low battery and overheating, through built-in warning lights.

4-2-1 Performance Tuned exhaust
The isometric "4-2-1 Performance Tuned Exhaust" manifold maximizes torque and acceleration. This unique design is an industry first and is only found on Tohatsu outboards. By designing each exhaust passage to be the same length, the combination of exhausts from each cylinder creates additional suction that helps pull the exhaust out of the engine. This completely eliminates the possibility of exhaust interference and dramatically improves performance. See the video on this page.

Superior durability and optimized weight
To ensure high durability and weight reduction, Tohatsu optimized each relatively heavy component, such as the cylinder head, exhaust manifold, engine base, oil pan, lower unit, etc. A special anodizing process was also used on all major aluminum components for extended engine life.

Silent engine
With its equal-length intake manifold, 4-2-1 Performance Tuned exhaust, and precisely tuned ECU, the engine delivers an exciting, performance-oriented sound. Sounds also bounce off each other within the large-capacity idle port, dampening the exhaust flow, contributing to the quietest idle noise.

Agility
With its sophisticated ECU programming, the engine is designed to improve acceleration when needed to get the boat on plane faster. If you open the throttle too wide, the ECU recognizes this and fires all four cylinders simultaneously. Simultaneously, the ECU optimizes and delivers sufficient air and fuel, creating a more suitable air/fuel mixture for rapid acceleration and generating higher torque. The higher the torque, the stronger the acceleration you get, resulting in improved hole shots and therefore faster planning. The upper and lower mounts and the gearbox have also been optimized for direct steering response, maneuverability, and greater stability.

Multi-function joystick with PTT switch on the handle
This multifunction tiller is an excellent choice for commercial use. It features an ergonomically designed large shift lever at the front and a longer throttle grip with a PTT (Power Trim & Tilt) switch at the end of the handle for easier control and maneuverability. To balance different wind and current conditions, the Variable Idling System allows the user to select the optimal idle speed from 5 different RPM ranges by simply pressing the key switch.

Choose a lower pitch for heavier boats: higher acceleration (for waterskiing/wakeboarding). Higher pitch for lighter boats: higher speed.

If the RPM is too low at full throttle, a smaller pitch can result in a higher top speed and acceleration. One pitch makes a difference of about 200 to 300 RPM. NB: Choosing too low a pitch may result in exceeding the maximum RPM and thus in engine damage.

You can also achieve more pulling power and higher revs with a larger diameter, and less pulling power and higher revs with a smaller diameter.
