Tohatsu 115 HP Outboard Motor MFS115A ETL
Tohatsu MFS115A ETL 4-stroke outboard motor
This engine has a cylinder capacity of no less than 1995 cc, which gives this completely newly developed engine a very high torque.
Test boote-magazin.de:
Significantly more thrust: By changing the exhaust manifold in the new model series, Tohatsu has managed to significantly more torque to generate in the lower speed range.
In the outboard motor market, it's difficult to differentiate your product significantly from the competition. Of course, in our extensive BOOTE comparison tests, we always highlight strengths and weaknesses in fuel consumption, noise level, and acceleration. The latter is measured by the time it takes to reach a certain speed, and the results can vary by seconds. But outboard motors with the same performance are otherwise very similar. None are significantly stronger than the other, and none are significantly weaker.
When developing its new engine series between 75 and 115 hp, Japanese manufacturer Tohatsu's main goal was to differentiate itself from the market. But how? Should the new engines be even more fuel-efficient or even quieter than the competition? Fuel-efficient and, of course, quiet. Above all, the new engines must have the highest torque in their class across the entire speed range and reach their final velocity, and thus their top speed, the fastest.
At the same time, the developers wanted to break the old rule that "displacement is nothing but displacement"—because increasing the engine's displacement would mean significantly increasing its weight, and weight is always a disadvantage. So they wondered how they could increase the engine's power without increasing its displacement and found another way: "Why not design an exhaust manifold that has never been used on an outboard motor before?"
The purpose of an exhaust manifold is to optimally dissipate exhaust gases. When properly designed, a manifold can significantly improve performance, especially in the lower rpm range. Tohatsu calls the result of this lengthy development process "4-2-1 Performance Tuned Exhaust," a geometrically optimized exhaust system. Instead of merging all four exhaust manifolds into a single tailpipe, as is customary in the 4-2-1 concept, the exhaust ports of cylinders 1 (top) and 4 (bottom) and those of cylinders 2 and 3 are first combined into two tailpipes. These two tailpipes then merge into a single pipe. This concept has long been known in the tuning scene for older cars, but is highly unusual in this form for outboard motors.
Combining exhaust pipes of the exact same length, using the 4-2-1 method, creates suction that intensifies the flow of exhaust gases from the engine. Simply put, the pistons don't have to struggle to push the exhaust gases out through the valves; negative pressure assists them. In practice, this simple yet intelligent modification results in impressive acceleration, and the engine actually reaches its top speed faster.
We tested the new 115 hp model on the Elbe and were impressed with the power management, especially in the 3500-4500 rpm range. The high torque is clearly noticeable there. Acceleration feels unlike anything known from four-stroke engines of the same size: the boat lifts its nose briefly, then drops back down and literally starts running. The test boat, a Valiant V-570 RIB, reaches 50 kilometers per hour in 6.7 seconds and accelerates further to a 100 km/h speed without any significant reduction. top speed of 72 kilometers per hour with the Tohatsu 115 hp.
Tohatsu has even managed to meet all the specifications it set itself: the Tohatsu MFS115 AETL finds itself well below or in the middle of the field between the Yamaha F115 (2.1L, 163kg), Yamaha F115B (1.8L, 177kg), Suzuki DF115A (2L, 187kg) and Honda BF115 (2.3L, 220kg). Tohatsu offers the best torque-to-weight ratio. Its small displacement also makes the Tohatsu engine extremely fuel-efficient. Between 3,000 and 3,500 rpm, it consumes just 0.32 or 0.35 liters of gasoline per kilometer, giving it a theoretical range of 304 kilometers (100 liters) with good acceleration. At full throttle, the engine requires almost twice as much fuel (0.62 liters/kilometer), which is also perfectly acceptable in comparison.

Speeds
- With a Gemini WR550 RIB with a boat weight of 350 kilograms, you can sail with a 115 hp outboard motor at a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
- With a Ryds 630 VI Sport with a boat weight of 690 kilograms, you can sail with a 115 hp outboard motor at a top speed of 74 kilometers per hour.
- With the Reitdieper 730 Tendersloep 7 meters with 870 kilograms boat weight you sail with a 115 hp outboard motor with a maximum speed of 57 kilometers per hour.
Water displacement
As a rule of thumb, for fast boats, you need 1 hp for a total weight of 10 to 20 kilograms. Based on this, this outboard motor is suitable for a total weight of 1 to 2 tons.
For displacement boats, 1 hp per 150 to 200 kilograms is sufficient; then the engine is adequate for 17 to 23 tons of total weight.

FEATURES
4-2-1 Performance Tuned exhaust
The isometric aggregate exhaust manifold "4-2-1 Performance Tuned Exhaust" maximizes torque and acceleration. This unique design is an industry first and is only found on Tohatsu outboards. By designing each exhaust passage to be the same length, the combination of the exhaust from each cylinder creates additional suction that helps pull the exhaust out of the engine. This completely eliminates the possibility of exhaust interference and dramatically improves performance.

Superior durability and optimized weight
To ensure high durability and weight reduction, Tohatsu optimized each relatively heavy component, such as the cylinder head, exhaust manifold, engine base, oil pan, lower unit, etc. A special anodizing process was also used on all major aluminum components for extended engine life.
Excellent fuel efficiency
The MFS75/90/100/115 features a unique SOHC-4V design in its class, where competitors are either SOHC-2V or DOHC-4V. Spark plugs are strategically placed in the center of each combustion chamber for the most efficient combustion with optimal heat conduction, resulting in strong running and fuel efficiency.
Silent engine
Featuring a equal-length intake manifold, 4-2-1 Performance Tuned exhaust, and a precisely tuned ECU, the MFS75/90/100/115 delivers an exciting, performance-focused engine note. Sounds also bounce off each other within the large-capacity idle port, dampening the exhaust flow, contributing to the quietest idle noise.
Agility
With its sophisticated ECU programming, the MFS75/90/100/115 is designed to improve acceleration when needed to get the boat on plane quicker. If you open the throttle too wide, the ECU recognizes this and fires all four cylinders simultaneously. At the same time, the ECU optimizes and delivers sufficient air and fuel, making the air/fuel mixture more suitable for quick acceleration to generate higher torque. The higher the torque, the stronger the acceleration you get, resulting in improved hole shots and therefore faster planing. Choose a lower pitch for heavier boats: higher acceleration (for waterskiing/wakeboarding). Higher pitch for lighter boats: higher speed.
If the RPM is too low at full throttle, a smaller pitch can result in a higher top speed and acceleration. One pitch makes a difference of about 200 to 300 RPM. NB: Choosing too low a pitch may result in exceeding the maximum RPM and thus in engine damage.
You can also achieve more pulling power and higher revs with a larger diameter, and less pulling power and higher revs with a smaller diameter.
