- Promotion: 3 year warranty when registered with ePropulsion.
The Pod Drive 1.0 Evo from ePropulsion is:
- Space saving
- Silent and vibration-free
- Maintenance free
- Hydrogeneration; charges the battery while sailing or sail faster with a folding propeller. Or charge with 220 volts or inverter.
- Easy to install
- Hydrogeneration > supplies charging current to the battery when the propeller turns during sailing, for example, or when sailing faster with a folding propeller (optional).
- Comparable to a 2 hp (propulsion power) to 3 hp (thrust) internal combustion engine.
- The engine is suitable for bringing boats up to 900 kilograms to cruising speed and boats up to 300 kilograms to hull speed . Is your (sailing) boat heavier? Then take a look at the Pod Drive 3.0 from ePropulsion or Pod Drive 6.0.
- Do you have a SUP, kayak or canoe: ePropulsion Vaquita SUP, kayak, canoe POD motor 0.3 kW 1hp with 324Wh battery
- The pod motor is mounted under the boat. The motor can only go forwards or backwards and you steer with your rudder.
- As a steerable pod motor, for example by mounting it in the rudder blade.
- With 2 pods and ePropulsion Evo Dual Remote Control you can also steer by propelling the pods at different speeds or in opposite directions.
- The Manual (Pod Drive 1.0)
- ePropulsion pod drives are direct drive and maintenance free electric motors for sailboats and small craft. They are space saving and maximize your cabin space.
- Surprisingly quiet : You won't hear any noise on board. The Spirit 1.0 is virtually silent with a direct-drive motor. There is no gear transmission which means less friction in the motor. The noise level of the Spirit is comparable to that of an electric toothbrush. Fancy a relaxing trip? That's exactly what electric boating offers.
- Optimal performance The pod system ensures optimal sailing characteristics, based on thorough development to achieve minimal water resistance.
- Epropulsion has user friendly features developed to deliver an exceptional boating experience from installation to operation.
- Maintenance: Brushless direct drive DC electric motor so low maintenance. The Pod 1.0 is a game changer. Much less time wasted on maintenance or winterizing. Only replace the rust-resistant anode after 200 hours when necessary and provide some parts with grease. Spend less time on your outboard motor and more time enjoying the water.
- Suitable for salt water.
- In case of damage caused by sailing, the coverage falls under your private liability insurance. This usually covers up to and including engine power of 1 kW.

Reviews
- Since this summer the owner of Gentle 430. A wonderful boat for 6 people. With the boat we bought the E-propulsion Spirit (motor). Silent, but very strong and a great battery life. Dico
- Very satisfied with the Epropulsion Spirit 1.0 PLUS - whisper quiet and very powerful, highly recommended! René December 22, 2020
- I like this extra short tail! We tried it out this afternoon and this engine is just right. It still sits well below the waterline and tilted it almost sticks out above the water. Absolutely fine. It also sails great, full throttle between 8 - 9 km / h. At third of power we get between 6.5 and 7 km / h. It is striking that if you turn the power down considerably, the speed does not even decrease that much while the action. radius increases considerably! Dirk Jan May 2021.
- Great product, well made and delivers performance, convenience, portability and QUIET! Would give 5 stars except for two things: 1) the tilt mechanism keeps the prop from fully coming out of the water; 2) the short shaft is still quite long, too long actually. I would go EXTRA short shaft if you think you need a short shaft. But performance wise the ePropulsion meets all my expectations. Not only is it quiet but the fine control for docking is far beyond anything a gas outboard can deliver. Starting/stopping etc is completely silent and effortless. Also impressed with the battery life and rechargeability - we are using this on a tender replacing a larger Yamaha gas outboard. On my first 5 day trip with the Spirit 1.0 I used it to go to shore or across a bay 2-3 times per day for 5 days and only used 40% of the battery. While at anchor and running my generator for an hour, I charged back up to 15% capacity. When running the boat, charging via my alternator, I fully charged to capacity (from 60% balance to 100% balance) in 2.5 hours of boating. The battery life seems so good, and charging so efficient, that I do not need a 2nd battery, which was a concern/consideration. Finally, I enjoy wildlife photography, and the ease of use combined with near silent operation allows for close proximity to wildlife to capture images that would not be possible with a gas outboard. Highly recommended! Mark Leopold August 13, 2019 Source
- Very happy with this purchase, these electric motors make perfect sense now and I am very glad I ditched my old Nissan 8hp for this 6hp electric. It is completely silent with no gas or oil leaks to worry about.Matthew Terrill April 12, 2019
- Excellent: easy to use and store; get many shore trips on one charge. Love it. David M.
- After using the outboard for a couple of weeks and running it for around 10 hours in a range of conditions from calm to heavy Atlantic waves I am very happy with it. As expected I had to modify the outboard on my Drascombe Scaffie quite a bit to give more clearance but it was worth it and the extra short shaft length is absolutely perfect. My daughter has referred to the whole process as "sailing without the sails up Rick - 16 May 2018
- I've been playing with the ePropulsion all weekend and I'm a little bit in love. Here are some observations: - the ePropulsion is definitely faster than the torqeedo (at least the 1003 I had). We get an extra half knot at half power and a whole extra knot at full power. This may have to do with the fact that it is more effective for heavier loads, Amélie weighs about 700 kg. I no longer hold up faster boats behind me when I leave the lock. We can start at a very respectable 7 kilometers per hour (where the torqeedo topped out at 5.5).
- the ePropulsion reacts faster than the torqeedo. I don't know if it's the gearbox, but the power is seemingly instant, which is a real bonus when you're dodging a racing dinghy that's been blown off course.
- We found the ePropulsion to be virtually silent at times. There were a couple of occasions when we were sailing into the wind and didn't even notice the engine was still running!! I wondered how we were doing 7 mph
- battery is good! On a 7 nm trip we used half the battery both days. This was a combination of driving, sailing & motorsailing. At least half the time it was running.
- The ePropulsion beats the tide!! The torqeedo just couldn't handle this.
- ePropulsion is more agile
- the battery may be heavier, but the bag is great! Since it is a backpack, it is much easier to carry despite the extra weight. Seems to be of better quality too.
Overall, I'm quite pleased and glad I went for it.
RD Rainham - July 19, 2018. - It has been a fantastic change for us to have the peace and quiet of the electric motor on the River Thames during the summer. The performance has been quite good, we can get the boat (a Drascombe Lugger) up to about hull speed but at 4mph or so (the max speed on the river is 4-5mph) we are comfortably getting between 4 and 5 hours of power. We usually only do between 3 and 4 and that probably includes a lunch or sundown drink before anchoring/bank tying or a dip in the swim so we haven't really tested the motor to 'Max'.
Apart from the quietness, the simplicity of the engine in terms of starting, restarting and changing gear has given Erica a lot more confidence to go out on her own with the boat (she never quite got the hang of the petrol outboard). The other real advantage is that once we have removed the battery, the engine is so light that we always take it off the transom and store it underneath - there have been many cases of outboards being stolen. I hope all goes well, the engine has attracted a lot of interest from other River users, who all can't believe how quiet it is. Ian Bron
