Tohatsu MFS20E outboard motor (5 year warranty).

The Tohatsu MFS 20E is a lightweight outboard engine that delivers superior performance with very favorable fuel consumption. Easy-to-handle 20 hp power source for versatile boating pleasure.

Producing lightweight outboards with superior performance will always be Tohatsu's number one goal. The 15 & 20 hp 4-stroke are no exception to this goal. They offer very favorable fuel consumption while having an excellent power-to-weight ratio and delivering top performance.

According to a rule of thumb, for fast boats you need 1 hp for 10 to 20 kilograms of total weight. Based on this, this outboard motor is then suitable for 200 to 400 kilograms of total weight.
For displacement boats, 1 hp per 150 to 200 kilograms is sufficient; the engine is then adequate for 3 to 4 tons of total weight.

It lightest EFI model in its class. The weight is almost the same as 2-stroke.

The renewed design is tough and robust. With these outboard motors, Tohatsu strengthens its leading position in the market of outboard motors up to 50 hp in the 4-stroke segment.

According to boat-fuel-economy.com it is consumption at full throttle 5 litres per hour at 5,500 rpm. It is estimated that at half power the consumption is 2 to 3 litres per hour.

As a rule of thumb, for fast boats you need 1 hp for 10 to 20 kilograms of total weight. Based on this, this outboard motor is then suitable for 400 to 800 kilograms of total weight.
For displacement boats, 1 hp per 150 to 200 kilograms is sufficient; the engine is then adequate for 6 to 8 tons of total weight.

  1. Test report 1 sailing test Tohatsu 20 hp MFS20E L. The test was performed with a tiller version. The test was performed with a Stessl Edge Tracker 3.70 boat with a total weight of 370 kilograms including passengers.
    • At 700 rpm a speed of 4 kilometers per hour was achieved and a consumption of 0.4 liters per hour.
    • At 3,300 rpm (in plane) a speed of 20 kilometers per hour was achieved and a consumption of 2.7 liters per hour.
    • At 4,000 rpm a speed of 34 kilometers per hour was achieved and a consumption of 3.7 liters per hour.
    • At 6,100 rpm (full power) a speed of 43 kilometers per hour achieved and a consumption of 6.3 litres per hour. Source: Tohatsu.com.au.
  2. Test report 2: review magazine Boten.nl by Arne Smit.
Consumption 6.2 liters per hour at full throttle at 5,400 to 6,100 rpm.
With 20 hp the Topcraft 605 with 680 kilogram boat weight easily 20 kilometers per hour . That is a wonderful speed with which you can make good progress without needing a boating license. Not too heavy people will easily be able to wakeboard and a funtube or banana is definitely one of the possibilities, which makes the boat also very usable in this combination for all kinds of sporty water sports possibilities. With a 20 hp four-stroke from Tohatsu you won't be faced with any unpleasant surprises at the gas station either.

FEATURES

Storage handle
We've built in a carrying handle on the front that can be easily tucked away when not in use.

Fuel Water Separator
A high-quality, easy-to-use fuel/water separator is standard on all EFI 20 | 15 | 9.9 engines. This unique yet simple fuel/water separator requires no tools to drain the water.

Center of gravity improved
By moving heavy components (i.e. crankshaft, driveshaft) forward 30mm compared to the previous model, the tilt weight has been reduced by 26% compared to the previous version, making it much easier for users to tilt manually.

Compact fuel system layout for easy maintenance
