The 616 is 2.34 meters wide and has a vertical clearance of 1.20 meters. Oudhuijzer is a brand that has been on the market since 2000 and has therefore been known for its quality for 20 years! It is the most sought-after brand for a reason.

These tenders are built entirely by hand using the hand lay-up method, utilizing the most modern and environmentally friendly materials available on the market.
Oudhuijzer uses Dutch rope fenders from the Langman rope factory, which has been guaranteeing excellent quality since 1638.

Market research has shown that Oudhuijzer is one of the brands with a high to very high residual value, because the materials used are of truly sublime quality.

Cushions are handmade from a fabric with a very high specific weight, ensuring you are still sitting comfortably after boating twice. These are upholstered with high-quality quilted Diamante fabric or Sunbrella Plus fabric (price reduction).

"The tender, the fast sibling of a sloop, is currently the most popular boat type in the statistics. That is not surprising. The combination of comfort like that of a sloop with the excitement of a sports boat creates a boat type that quickly meets all needs. A comfortable and compact tender with an accessible price tag.

The new Oud Huijzer we are being introduced to is dressed in black, both the hull, the deck, and the interior. It gives the boat a tough, somewhat menacing appearance. For this type of boat, black has been the new fashion for some time. It looks good, and there is another advantage. Discoloration on the waterline due to oil pollution is not visible like it would be on a white hull, although on black, every dried water droplet is visible. After several years, some discoloration will occur. How quickly depends on the maintenance and how the boat is covered when not in use. Fortunately, with regular polishing and the right products, the influence of sunlight can be significantly limited. Naturally, the boat is also available in other colors.

But besides the color, the lines of the new Oud Huijzer make it a pleasant appearance. The boat has a reasonably high freeboard with a full bow that reminds one of a sloop. Yet that height is not striking due to a rubber rub rail with a neat Langman rope fender above it, which both breaks and accentuates the lines of the boat. With a set of tensioners, the ropework is pulled tight, after which it cannot move.

The foredeck has been kept modest for optimal interior space. It does offer a neat place for a proper anchor locker.

At the rear are the motor well and the swim platform, which take up a relatively large amount of space. Yet the size of the well is not noticeable. On either side, two steps break both the width and height of the transom, while under the hatch, outboards up to 70 HP find a place.

The test boat is equipped with a 50hp Tohatsu. We have sailed with it more often, and every time the conclusion is that Tohatsu outboards do their work remarkably smoothly and quietly. This 3-cylinder 4-stroke is no exception. The boat, by the way, has no rudder, so steering is done with the motor. In the well, it is important to provide the motor with sufficient oxygen. Also, exhaust gases must not accumulate in the enclosed space. With a set of generously sized ventilators and a drain hose, that is perfectly taken care of.

The interior is spacious and comfortable. More than you would expect from a 6-meter boat where a significant part is also reserved for the motor well and swim platform. That well, however, has the advantage that there is no motor box, which creates much more living space in the boat. The full bow and the modest foredeck make a round seating area possible that sits further forward and nice and deep in the boat. This also allows for a sleek and, most importantly, low sprayhood that still offers sufficient sitting height without disrupting the lines of the boat. The polyester work is well finished, also in the storage space under the benches. Oud Huijzer sloops are known for their good build quality. Even the older models still look good after years, provided the owner does some maintenance, of course. This new one clearly gives the impression of honoring that tradition.

Behind the steering console is a two-person bench with a neatly finished storage space underneath for the fuel tank and the battery. The high backrests with the standard Sunbrella Plus cushion set make the comfort complete.

On a virtually flat and windless Veluwemeer lake, it is striking how easily the Oud Huijzer 616 planes. Effortlessly, we sail at about 20 kilometers per hour with the throttle half open. At full throttle, the boat clocks a top speed of about 42 kilometers per hour. Under the water, the Oud Huijzer has a moderate V-shape.

Not too deep, which is an advantage under these calm conditions. Less motor power is needed for an attractive speed. On the other hand, in waves, the boat needs enough power to go through or over them with its full bow. We stay dry, but it is to be expected that under those conditions, some spray water will reach the cockpit. The boat steers like a charm. At least, that is what you draw on the water when you sail in a circle. Maneuvering also offers no surprises. There is no rudder, so you steer with the propeller. That must, of course, be turning. With more or less throttle, you determine the size of the turning circle. It feels somewhat counter-intuitive to give throttle when things get tight, but with some practice, it becomes a reflex.

The time when noble watersports were reserved only for a small elite with a deep purse is fortunately behind us. Due to the arrival of more widely distributed prosperity and more free time, a boat has come within reach of a much larger group. By now, the difference between then and now is vast. With the introduction of new production techniques that allow a series of boats to be produced quickly and efficiently, a mega-investment is no longer necessary. Boat Import Holland is an importer partly responsible for this development. By having boats produced in Poland at an early stage, there is now, 20 years later, a well-oiled organization capable of manufacturing large numbers of tenders, cabins, and sloops that fully meet "our" quality requirements. The pricing, on the other hand, is much less from "here."

Despite the somewhat menacing appearance of the Oud Huijzer 616 Tender in this color scheme, the sailing characteristics of the boat can best be described as good-natured.
