Oud Huijzer came with a strikingly designed tender, the 570. Some people did not like the specially designed tender, but there were many positive reactions to the 'beetle's backside'. Then it was time for a facelift and the Oud Huijzer 580 / 600 was created.

The appeal of the model lies mainly in the combination of a cozy layout, the possibility of fast sailing and the attractive price.

Beetle butt
Another reason for the years of success of this 580 tender is the striking rear, the so-called beetle rear. This is a sturdy, rounded hood above the bun. Right in front of the swimming platform is another secret of the tender's success hidden, the outboard motor. Drive with an outboard motor has many advantages. They are light, cheap, easy to maintain, consume little fuel and in the bun they are out of sight. In addition, you leave the noise behind you and you have more space in the boat because you do not have the engine box.

In 2019, the boat was equipped with a continuous rear seat. The clinker hull was also modernized and made tighter. Finally, the new hull was given a modified underwater hull, which would allow the 580 to get into plané faster. The entire boat, including the 60 hp engine, weighs around 700 kilos.

When you look inside the boat, it becomes clear that the OudHuijzers have been finished better and better over time. The cockpit is self-draining, the polyester work of the hull looks solid, as do the various parts of the inner shell. However, many light materials have been used, such as for the clamps on the engine cover. The outboard engine in the well under the butt is another key to the success of the OudHuijzers.

The 580/600 can be delivered as a starter sloop with a 15hp Tohatsu in the bun, but also with an electric motor or as a fast-moving tender with a 60hp Tohatsu . This silent 1000 cc three-cylinder power source was in a beautiful - matching the hull - white color, invisibly hidden under the engine cover. You can only approach the engine from the rear, so the swimming platform, because the engine cover hinges at the rear seat. Remarkable
The layout is definitely good. At the front you have a trailer eye and above that a wide anchor hatch. It is striking that the red-green navigation lights are placed in the bow as docking lights. At the front is a spacious, well-fitting U-shaped bench that can be filled up to a bed. In the middle of the boat there are steps on both sides. In front of the console is a funny seat with a nice storage space underneath. The boat has a surprising amount of neat storage space anyway. For example, there is a separate, perfectly fitting place for the battery, separate from the space under the rear bench where the loose fuel tank is located. Safety also appears to be well taken care of with the large bracket around the steering console, which offers perfect grip on rough water.

Behind the console is the boat-wide helm seat. Behind it, almost a third of the tender length is used for the swimming platform and the round bun with the outboard motor. This is also the most striking part of this otherwise modestly lined tender.

The outboard motor in the well under the butt is another key to the success of the OudHuijzers.

Balance
In the previous (570) version, the balance in the boat was the Achilles heel. The narrow bow and most of the weight in the back caused problems with the balance, especially when sailing with two people. This aspect appears to have been improved, because the boat sails easily and can be steered into the harbour box with 60 hp in the bun. The boat is easy to get into plané, but climbs a bit with the nose up during acceleration. On smooth water, the boat sails quickly, we clocked 53 kilometres per hour and that is lightning fast for a tender of less than six metres in length. On wind-blown waters, we notice that the boat throws up a lot of spray, which regularly descends into the cockpit. If you sail slower or on flatter water, this problem disappears. Then the 580/600 becomes that cute little beetle again that does exactly what you want.

The Oud Huijzer 580/600 sails easily and is a striking, well-built tender with a pleasant price.
