The ePropulsion Navy 6.0 Evo is a quiet 6 kW electric outboard motor for heavier boats and longer sailing trips. The direct-drive system has no gearbox and requires little maintenance. Remote control is included at Marinaut.
Battery and installation: The battery is separate and not included. View the scope of delivery and necessary components.
Key features
- Power: 6,000 W, 48 V and a maximum of 125 A.
- Thrust: 279 lbs.
- Comparison with internal combustion engine: ePropulsion claims a theoretical equivalent of 9.9 hp. Marinaut practically compares sailing performance to approximately 10 hp of propulsion power up to 15 hp of thrust. Electric power, thrust, and the motor power of an internal combustion engine are not directly convertible.
- Hydrogeneration: while sailing, the rotating propeller can provide charging current to the battery.
- Closed liquid cooling: the cooling system does not use external water.
- Noise: quiet due to the direct-drive motor.
- Starting: electric.
- Usage: suitable for fresh and salt water.
- Trim and tilt positions: manually adjustable at 0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, 35°, 50°, 65°, and 80°.
- Steering: with hand control, the motor can rotate 360 degrees.
- Weight: 28.5 kg for the short shaft and 29.5 kg for the long shaft.
Which boats is the Navy 6.0 Evo suitable for?
The motor is used on boats such as sloops, RIBs, and sailboats. As a practical selection guideline, the Navy 6.0 Evo is used to bring boats up to approximately 5,400 kg to cruising speed and boats up to approximately 1,900 kg to hull speed. Actual performance depends on hull shape, load, propeller, weather conditions, and battery installation. Also, view the explanation about electric boating.
On a light 4.5-meter RIB, a speed of approximately 26 kilometers per hour was measured. This is a practical example and not a guaranteed speed for every boat.
Control and installation
The Navy 6.0 Evo Remote is connected to a monocable steering system. For complete steering, a steering cable and steering wheel are also required. Available control options are:
- remote control for top mounting;
- side mount control for Spirit Evo, Navy Evo, and Pod Drive Evo, at an additional cost of €149;
- dual Evo remote control for twin motors;
- foldable tiller, article number NE-TC00-00.
The displays show information including battery status and remaining runtime. Switching between remote control and tiller is possible at a later date.
Two propellers included
The motor is supplied with two three-blade fiber-reinforced nylon propellers:
- Low pitch, 340 × 216 mm: more thrust and control for heavy boats and maneuvering; a lower top speed.
- High pitch, 320 × 274 mm: intended for lighter, streamlined boats where speed is more important.
An aluminum propeller is also available, article number N6-LU01-E0, with dimensions 12.6 × 8.7 inches. The thrust is between that of the low-pitch and high-pitch propellers.
Motor efficiency
| RPM | Torque | Efficiency |
|---|---|---|
| 1,200 rpm | 36.5 | 76.5% |
| 1,300 rpm | 35.0 | 79.3% |
| 1,400 rpm | 33.4 | 81.5% |
| 1,500 rpm | 32.3 | 83.4% |
| 1,600 rpm | 30.5 | 85.1% |
| 1,700 rpm | 29.2 | 86.5% |
| 1,800 rpm | 28.1 | 87.7% |
Shaft lengths and article numbers
- Short shaft: 64 cm, for a transom height of approximately 40 to 50 cm. Article number NE-6000-S1, EAN 6971312632026.
- Long shaft: 76.5 cm, for a transom height above 50 cm. Article number NE-6000-L1, EAN 6971312632033.
Measure the transom height from the top where the motor rests to the bottom of the boat. The required length may differ from that of an internal combustion engine. View the ePropulsion explanation regarding shaft lengths.
Battery and necessary components
Battery: separate and not included. Choose a suitable 48 V battery and charging solution for the chosen installation.
- Battery: at least 125 Ah. Recommended are an ePropulsion E175 LiFePO4 battery of 9 kWh or two E80 batteries. Suitable AGM and other LiFePO4 batteries are also possible.
- Installation: €995.
- With multiple batteries: battery cables and one ePropulsion E-Series Communication Terminator or E-Series Remote Battery Switch of 5 meters.
- Control: depending on the chosen version, a top or side mount control, tiller, or dual remote control.
Runtime and range are not given as fixed values. They depend on the chosen battery capacity, speed, boat, load, and conditions.
Optional accessories
- ePropulsion wristband with man-overboard switch. Free at Marinaut when specified with the order, worth €119.
- Anti-ventilation plate N6-AP00-E0: for performance improvement on light, high-speed boats. Mounting 2 to 3 cm above the propeller and below the waterline.
- Steering bar for dual motors: €245. Available in various lengths, including 700–900 mm. For two motors, the transom plate must be longer than 120 cm and the distance between the motors must be more than 60 cm.
- Dual control NE-DR00-00: control for two motors, jointly or separately. Includes 4.3-inch display and communication cables. EAN 6971312631920, price €795.
Navy 6.0 Evo or Haswing Armada?
Choose the ePropulsion Navy 6.0 Evo when silence, efficiency, hydrogeneration, and extensive control options are important.
Choose a Haswing Armada when a lower purchase price and simple, robust operation carry more weight than hydrogeneration and the extensive Evo functions.
Maintenance and commercial use
The direct-drive motor requires less periodic maintenance than an internal combustion engine. Check the anode and lubrication points according to the manual. Replace the transmission oil according to the ePropulsion maintenance schedule.
For commercial use, an electric propulsion system may be eligible for tax-based environmental regulations. Always check current terms and the environmental list at RVO.
Manuals
Transport on a boat trailer
Do not transport the motor without extra support in the trimmed position. This can damage the bracket, and this damage may not be covered by the warranty.
