Quietly enjoy electric

Enjoy undisturbed peace, unlimited sailing and a carefree water sports experience at the touch of a button. The smart and modular electric propulsion systems from VETUS are easy to install (also as a refit) and stand for performance, savings and convenience. With an electric propulsion system from VETUS you are always ready for a wonderful time on the water. A whole day of pure enjoyment is now within your reach.

With VETUS E-DRIVES you come closer to yourself, nature, family and friends

Years of development and thousands of hours of testing have been spent developing proprietary technologies that virtually eliminate noise without compromising performance. And because VETUS E-DRIVES comply with all environmental regulations, you can say goodbye to more than just the sound of a diesel engine. Emissions, fumes, exhaust gases and environmental restrictions are also a thing of the past!

Experience long, carefree days on the water

VETUS E-DRIVES offer you the optimum sailing comfort. There is no need to wait for the engine to warm up … you step on board and you can go! And thanks to the high starting torque you are quickly underway with an engine that accelerates powerfully and quickly.

You can choose from three propulsion modes: NORMAL, ECO and POWER. In ECO mode, the maximum power of the E-DRIVE is limited, giving you maximum range. POWER mode unleashes peak power for fast manoeuvres. This allows you to achieve up to 13.3 kW at 1,600 rpm. Peak power is available for a quarter of an hour.

You never have to worry about your day on the water ending earlier than planned. With VETUS electric propulsion systems you have access to an extensive set of real-time data. You can therefore always keep an eye on your battery and range. And with the right battery bank you can easily sail a whole day.

Compact, all-in-one design

Don't judge a VETUS E-DRIVE by its compactness alone. Just because it takes up little space doesn't mean it doesn't have a LOT to offer. VETUS electric propulsion systems offer numerous intelligent boating advantages:

  • Sailing Assist gives you multiple engine mappings with adaptive RPM curve technology for maximum efficiency.
  • The active electric brake technology enables fast and active manoeuvring. Reversing in the blink of an eye or coming to a stop within a boat length is a reality.
  • The advanced engine electronics feature a battery protection function that protects your battery bank from damage and extends its lifespan.
  • The patented engine control unit actively monitors the battery to prevent unwanted damage.
  • The Boosted Battery Charge function allows a 48VDC battery bank to be charged with a 24VDC charger. This innovative solution allows boats to be built with a safer network due to the lower voltage.

Simple refits

VETUS electric propulsion systems are designed for compactness and easy installation. The supplied mounting brackets and engine supports allow for a quick refit. Thanks to the mounting brackets with engine supports that are easily adjustable in height, length and width and of which the angle can be changed (0° or 8°), VETUS E-DRIVES can be installed on almost any existing engine foundation. In addition, VETUS electric propulsion motors are designed to be compatible with your existing propeller and propeller shaft.

Costs?

Worried about switching to electric? Don’t be. In the long run, VETUS E-DRIVES will make your boating experience better, cleaner and cheaper. No gaskets, air or fuel filters to replace, no oil to change and no carburetor to clean – that means less downtime and lower maintenance costs. And because you don’t have to pay for fuel either, an electric boat will ultimately be cheaper.

Peace of mind with VETUS

VETUS has over 25 years of experience in pioneering design and technology in electric drive systems plus almost half a century of experience in best-in-class manufacturing methods and stringent quality control.

Active electric braking
The E-LINE engine and the E-POD system accelerate more powerfully and faster than a diesel engine. In addition, this electric propulsion works without a reversing clutch. This means that when the propeller reverses, the entire high-speed electric motor must come to an immediate standstill and then rotate in the opposite direction. In order to be able to manoeuvre backwards quickly, such as with a reversing clutch, VETUS has developed Active Electric Braking for the E-LINE and E-POD. This uses the high torque of the electric motor to quickly and actively change the direction of rotation. With Active Electric Braking
it is possible to stop the boat within one boat length. Full control and a familiar way of sailing, with the advantages of a high torque electric motor.

Battery protection function

The battery protection function of the VETUS electric propulsion motor ensures that the battery pack is not unnecessarily overloaded and that the life of the batteries is longer than just the current sailing season. Discharging the battery bank below the specified voltage damages the batteries and reduces their life. To prevent this, the patented VETUS Motor Controller actively monitors the battery bank based on voltage and current consumption.

Boosted Battery Charge function

Another unique feature of the VETUS e-drive engines is the Boosted Battery Charge function. With the Boosted Battery Charge function, a 24 VDC charger can be used to charge the 48 VDC battery pack of the propulsion. This is an advantage since the 24 VDC battery chargers are used much more often. Furthermore, this offers the yacht builder the possibility to integrate the propulsion in a 24 VDC electrical system in a simple way.

Enjoy a long day on the water with peace of mind, now and in the future

Thanks to the cleverly applied water cooling you get the maximum power from the engine and the maximum range from the batteries. A full day on the water without limitations. With the control panel the energy level can be measured well and with the right battery pack you can sail all day.

The VETUS vision on electric sailing is compact, complete, highly efficient, plug & play and suitable for both new and existing ships. The VETUS electric propulsion is integrated with our V-CAN bus system and of course meets all emission requirements. Silent, infinitely adjustable and equipped with solid protection against overload: the ideal partner for a comfortable trip!

The VETUS e-drives (E-LINE and E-POD) work with V-CAN, just like the VETUS proportional bow thrusters (BOW PRO). This internally developed CAN control system ensures fewer cables through your boat, robust and reliable operation and is easy to expand.

Engine supplied as standard, including:

  • MPE1KB Key Switch - All-in-one solution; V-CAN power supply, external 12V power supply and anti-theft
  • MPE1MB Monitoring Panel - V-CAN Monitoring, Battery Indication, Engine Alarms and Engine Status
  • Including cooling system
  • Exclusive keel cooling system with closed circulation, this is advised for salt or very sandy water. With the help of the ELINEKC keel cooler (371,-) the coolant (VETUS Organic Coolant) carries the heat away from the engine and controller.
  • Swap & Go engine mounts and engine mounts type EMX65
  • Integrated thrust bearing
  • Mounting flange 4” suitable for flexible propeller shaft coupling Vetus Combiflex (COMFL 314,-) or Bullflex1 (BULFL01 421,-).

  • Excluding connection material 455,-:
    • 3x CAN cable 1 meter
    • 1x CAN cable 5 meters
    • 1x CAN 3 point Hub
    • 1 x CAN supply cable
    • 1 x CAN terminating resistor
    • 1 x fuse holder, type C100 including cover cap
    • 1 x Strip fuse (ANL / C20) - 200 Ampere
  • Excluding remote control / control handle Vetus ELPS 837,-.
  • Exclusive batteries and battery charger.
  • Exclusive flexible propeller shaft coupling (for example Vetus Combiflex (1225 (25 mm) / 1230 (30 mm)) or Bullflex1 (20 or 25 mm) 421,-.
Where aligning the engine and propeller shaft is often a time-consuming job, the Vetus Combiflex makes it easy for the installer.
Even with an alignment error of up to 2 degrees, the propeller shaft remains perfectly centred on the flange of the reversing gear.
An ideal flexible coupling for a propeller shaft with a floating propeller shaft seal and an engine on flexible supports.
If the propeller shaft is at an angle of 2 degrees to the engine, the maximum permissible speed is 1500 revolutions per minute on the shaft.
Torsional vibrations caused by load changes and/or as a result of uneven engine running are dampened thanks to the very flexible rubber element.
This pre-tensioned rubber element ensures a play-free and vibration-damping connection between the engine and the propeller shaft.
Thanks to the breakdown protection (both axial and radial), this connection remains optimally guaranteed.
The non-conical clamp hub ensures problem-free mounting, and perhaps even more importantly dismounting (unlike a conical clamp hub).
The propeller shaft can easily be cut to length: saw it off, deburr it, degrease it and assemble it, that's all.
The Vetus Combiflex flexible coupling has a 4” flange that fits on common models of reversing couplings.
Suitable intermediate flanges are available for Yanmar, Volvo and Kanzaki reversing couplings.
Maximum permissible power at 1500 rpm 36KW (48HP).
  • Excluding propeller shaft.
  • Excluding screw/propeller.

Available in 6 versions: EAir04024, EAir040, EAIR070, E-line050, E-line075 and E-line100.

The E-line Air versions are air cooled .

Air-cooled electric propulsion systems can offer certain vessels a number of advantages over water-cooled variants. Firstly, with air cooling there is no water inlet to block in areas where the cooling water supply could be blocked, such as in inland waterways with a lot of weeds.

Cooling is provided by a simpler system with fewer parts; a lightweight fan and pipework arrangement that requires less maintenance than a water-cooled pump, pipework and strainer. During the cold winter months, air cooling also prevents potentially costly problems with water pumps or pipes.

Dry weight

The VETUS E-LINE AIR models have a dry weight of only 65 kg, making them very light. The use of existing transmission equipment reduces the cost of the electrification project, and the compact dimensions mean that when repowering the E-LINE AIR usually requires less engine space, including provision for cooling air circulation, than the unit it replaces.

Mounting an E-LINE AIR engine is easy compared to many alternatives. Simply mount the engine, align the axle using the adjustable Swap&Go brackets and special engine mounts, connect a battery and you are ready to go.

Because the E-LINE engines are both a modular and fully integrated design, upgrading the system later is a simple process. With key components such as the engine controller integrated into the unit, it is easy to correctly specify a system and ensure compatibility between components, allowing more boaters than ever before to enjoy the benefits of marine electrification.

The engines in the E-LINE AIR series are all 1:1 direct drive, meaning that the propeller always rotates at the same speed as the engine. In addition to saving the additional cost, noise and complexity of a mechanical gearbox, direct drive marine electric propulsion systems provide an almost instantaneous change between forward and reverse.

RPM

With the VETUS E-LINE AIR models, the propeller speed can be controlled down to zero with the skipper’s fingertips and the change between forward and reverse is an instant touch of an electronic controller rather than the much slower mechanical change of a gearbox. These models have active engine braking, which provides even more responsiveness and control when reducing speed or changing between forward and reverse.

Running out of range is a legitimate concern for many potential electric boaters. As part of the VETUS E-DRIVE range of systems, the air-cooled engines are all compatible with NMEA2000 solutions via the VETUS CANV2N CANverter (285,-) and the modular digital CAN bus communication system VETUS V-CAN. This connectivity, unique to VETUS, combined with the E-Drive CANNS500 (571,-) battery monitoring shunt solution, means the user has crucial visibility of real-time remaining battery charge and runtime.

The new VETUS CANNME7 (1.592,-) multifunctional display is compatible with the CANNS500 Digital Battery Monitoring Shunt and CANV2N CANverter series and offers this rich and long-awaited information. In combination with the CANNS500 shunt, the display can give a much more accurate picture of the remaining battery percentage and therefore the usable range. If the skipper presses the throttle too hard, the remaining range is immediately adjusted.

Like its sister series, the E-LINE and E-POD, the E-LINE AIR series is extremely quiet for a carefree and peaceful boating experience.

The innovative liquid cooling system allows skippers to benefit from the maximum power of the engine and the maximum range of the batteries for a whole day on the water. The monitoring panels ensure that the energy levels are easy to measure.

The E-LINE engine is equipped with a smart, water-cooled 48V controller, specially developed for electric sailing, which allows the user to charge the battery bank with a 24V battery charger.
