Tohatsu MFS50A 4-stroke outboard motor

The 4-stroke models from Tohatsu … have the latest technology! These Tohatsu outboards are reliable and have robust technology that is easy to use. The MFS 50 is the first model of the new Tohatsu lightweight Sportief ECO line. It is the lightest 4-stroke outboard in this class.

Tip consider whether Tohatsu 60 HP outboard motor MFS60A ETL this has an even better power to price ratio.

This outboard motor is suitable for water sports; for water skiing, wakeboarding or wakefoiling (for boats with a speed from 20 kilometers per hour for beginners up to 35 kilometers per hour for advanced users).

According to a rule of thumb, for fast boats you need 1 hp for 10 to 20 kilograms of total weight. Based on this, this outboard motor is then suitable for 500 to 1000 kilograms of total weight.
For displacement boats, 1 hp per 150 to 200 kilograms is sufficient; the engine is then adequate for 7.5 to 10 tons of total weight.

The test boat is equipped with a 50hp Tohatsu. We have sailed with it more often and each time the conclusion is that Tohatsu's do their work remarkably smoothly and quietly. This 3 cylinder 4-stroke is no exception. Incidentally, the boat has no rudder, so steering is also done with the engine. In the bun it is important to provide the engine with sufficient oxygen. Exhaust gases must also not accumulate in the closed space. With a set of generously sized air vents and a drain hose that is perfectly arranged.
On a virtually flat and windless Veluwemeer it is striking how easily the Oud Huijzer 616 gets into plané. We sail effortlessly at about 20 kilometers per hour with the throttle half open. Full throttle the boat clocks a top speed of about 42 kilometers per hour.

For water sports enthusiasts who like to sail a bit faster, a 50 hp Tohatsu four-stroke outboard motor is a great choice. These engines weigh less than 100 kilograms, which means the Topcraft 605 can sail light-footed with a top speed of 50 kilometres per hour. More than enough for water skiing, wakeboarding or blowing out a breeze on open water with a boat full of friends.

The test was carried out using a Clark Abalone 435 boat with a total weight of 750 kilograms.
At 3,500 rpm a speed of 27 kilometers per hour was achieved and a consumption of 5 liters per hour.
At 6,300 rpm a maximum speed of 55 kilometers per hour was achieved and a consumption of 16 liters per hour.

The transom height of the boat determines the outboard motor's shaft length. Measure from the point where the motor is attached to the bottom. Is the transom height around 43 centimetres? Then you need a short shaft. For a length of 51 centimetres, it is best to go for a long shaft. You need an extra long shaft for a length of 63 centimetres.
