The unique 4-2-1 Performance Tuned exhaust manifold is designed to maximize torque and acceleration at low RPMs. The best torque-to-displacement ratio in its class ensures excellent performance for all types of boats, from light to heavy weight, for leisure or commercial use. In certain boat applications, the MFS140A will perform comparably to heavier 150 hp outboards that weigh as much as 50 kilograms more.
This motor is also easier to mount due to its lower weight.

• With the Protagon 20 at a boat weight of 850 kilograms, you will reach a maximum speed of 63 kilometers per hour with a 140 hp outboard motor.
• With the Waterspoor 717 tender at a boat weight of 1,750 kilograms, you will reach a maximum speed of 55 kilometers per hour with a 140 hp outboard motor.
• With the Corsiva 750 tender 175HP, you will reach a maximum speed of 55 kilometers per hour with a 140 hp outboard motor. And over 45 kilometers per hour with 8 people on board.

Where the competition provides a 1.8-liter engine, the Tohatsu 140 hp has a 2-liter engine.

The MFS140A is designed with Simpliq™ technology and features an SOHC-4V design. The spark plugs are strategically placed in the center of each combustion chamber for the most efficient combustion with optimal heat conduction, resulting in strong performance and fuel efficiency.

As a rule of thumb, for fast-planing boats, you need 1 hp for every 10 to 20 kilograms of total weight. Based on this, this outboard motor is suitable for a total weight of 1 ton to 3 tons.
For displacement boats, 1 hp per 150 to 200 kilograms is sufficient; in that case, the motor is adequate for a total weight of 21 tons to 28 tons.

• Trim gauge

Trim gauge (2" diameter) shows the engine angle for optimal performance and efficiency. Features a domed lens to minimize glare in direct sunlight, a fog- and scratch-resistant coating, and a chrome bezel.

• Tachometer

The tachometer with a 7,000 RPM range (10-centimeter diameter) has a chrome bezel and is illuminated for clear viewing in the dark. Features a domed lens to minimize glare in direct sunlight and a fog- and scratch-resistant coating.

The tachometer informs the operator of potential issues, such as low oil pressure, a near-dead battery, and overheating, via built-in warning lights.

4-2-1 Performance Tuned exhaust
The "4-2-1 Performance Tuned Exhaust" isometric aggregate exhaust manifold maximizes torque and acceleration performance. This unique design is an industry first and is only found on Tohatsu outboard motors. By designing each exhaust passage to be equal in length, the merging of the exhaust from each cylinder creates additional suction that helps pull the exhaust out of the engine. This completely eliminates the possibility of exhaust interference and drastically improves performance. See video on this page.

Superior durability and optimized weight
For high durability and weight reduction, Tohatsu has optimized every relatively heavy part, such as the cylinder head, exhaust manifold, engine base, oil pan, lower unit, etc. A special anodizing process has also been used on all important aluminum components for a longer engine life.

Quiet engine
With the equal-length intake manifold, the 4-2-1 Performance Tuned exhaust, and the precisely tuned ECU, the engine delivers an exciting and performance-oriented sound. Also, within the large-capacity Idle Port, sounds reflect off each other to dampen the exhaust flow, contributing to the lowest sound when idling.

Maneuverability
With its refined ECU programming, the engine is designed to improve acceleration when needed to get the boat on plane faster. When you throttle to full speed, the ECU recognizes this and fires all four cylinders simultaneously. At the same time, the ECU optimizes and delivers enough air and fuel, making the air/fuel mixture better suited for rapid acceleration to generate higher torque. The higher the torque, the stronger the acceleration you get, resulting in improved hole-shots and thus getting on plane faster. The upper and lower mounts and the gearbox have also been optimized for direct steering response, maneuverability, and greater stability.

Multi-function tiller handle with PTT switch on the grip
The multi-function tiller handle is an excellent choice for commercial use. It has an ergonomically designed large shift lever on the front and a longer throttle grip with a PTT (Power Trim & Tilt) switch on the end of the handle for easier operation and maneuverability. To balance different wind and current conditions, the Variable Idling System allows the user to select the best idle speed from 5 different RPM ranges simply by pressing the key switch.
