Honda 40 HP outboard motor BF40D LRTU

Honda 40 HP outboard motor BF40D LRTU

BF40 short or long tail 40 hp – 4-stroke engine | 3 cylinders – 808 cm³

With power trim and tilt.
According to boat-fuel-economy.com, full throttle consumption is 14.7 liters per hour. At half throttle, consumption is estimated at 4.5 liters per hour.
Powerful lightweight three-cylinder engine: technologically advanced outboard motor with an excellent power-to-weight ratio, powerful acceleration and impressive fuel efficiency.
A rule of thumb is that for fast boats, you need 1 hp for every 10 to 20 kilograms of total weight. Based on this, this outboard motor is suitable for a total weight of 400 to 800 kilograms. For displacement boats, 1 hp for every 150 to 200 kilograms is sufficient; then the motor is suitable for a total weight of 6 to 8 tons.
Proven technologies used in Honda car and motorcycle engines are also incorporated into the electronic fuel injection system, which delivers improved performance and reduced fuel consumption.
PGM-Fi electronic fuel injection: ensuring easy starting, powerful acceleration, and remarkably low fuel consumption. The long, slim intake manifold and downsized electronic components weigh less and require less space, contributing to the compact and sleek design. The transmission is extremely hydrodynamic, minimizing water resistance and maximizing the engine's power.
Honda BLAST™ technology with PGM-Fi electronic fuel injection delivers instant acceleration, getting the boat on plane (moving over the water instead of through it) as quickly as possible. This is achieved by using even more precise ignition timing, which delivers more torque at low RPM, so you can reach cruising speed very quickly. BLAST™: Boosted Low Speed Torque delivers thrust and gets the boat on plane by boosting torque at low RPM, resulting in rapid acceleration.
The unique ECOmo Lean Burn Control system adjusts the air-fuel ratio based on load and speed, so your cruising speed consumes less fuel. When your boat is cruising, the PGM-FI system can adjust the air-fuel ratio by up to 20% by thinning the mixture.
The high-capacity alternator delivers a robust 22 amps, enough to keep a battery with a 17-amp charging capacity in top condition. And to power all the electronic equipment you have on board.
Plug and Play: The engines are NMEA 2000® compatible, making them compatible with all other NMEA 2000®-compatible electronic devices, such as navigation and fishfinder systems. Engine data, such as rpm, temperature, and fuel consumption, can be displayed via multifunction gauges.
Engine Protection and Security: Honda Outboard Warning Systems monitor key engine functions, including engine temperature, oil level, fuel injection, and charging, and alert the boat operator to any abnormal operation.
Fine-tuning: Using power tilt and trim, you can find an economical speed and maneuver the boat precisely for better performance and fuel economy. This means the engine's vertical position can be adjusted slightly while sailing. When sailing into the wind in waves, adjust the trim down. This forces the bow to dive slightly into the waves, reducing the boat's pitch. When sailing downwind, adjust the trim up. This prevents the bow from diving into the waves and digging in.
4Front Corrosion Protection: A four-layer coating process that provides UV and saltwater protection. This ensures the best protection against the harsh marine environment. Four layers of defense: Honda first anodizes the aluminum body with a patented "double-sealing" process. Then, an epoxy primer is applied before the sparkling silver paint is applied. For additional UV protection, a clear acrylic resin topcoat is applied. And for added security, a solvent electrode is attached, and all connections are waterproof. Corrosion doesn't stand a chance.

Tip: Consider a 50 hp Honda given the relatively small price difference.

Performances

The boat's transom height determines the outboard motor's shaft length. Measure from the mounting point of the motor to the bottom. Is the transom height around 43 centimeters? Then you'll need a short shaft. For a length of 51 centimeters, a long shaft is best. You'll need an extra long shaft for a length of 63 centimeters.
